How to play 7-8
2 players, 30 cards. Sevens through aces in every suit, minus the 7♣ and 7♦. Each player gets 15 cards, so there are 15 tricks a hand.
The deal
You get 5 cards in hand and 5 piles on the table in front of you. Each pile is a face-down card with a face-up card on top. Both players can see every face-up card.
Targets
The dealer needs 7 tricks and the other player needs 8. 7 + 8 = 15. The player who needs 8 calls trump after seeing their 5 hand cards, then leads the first trick. The deal alternates every hand.
Play
- Play any card from your hand or any face-up card from your piles.
- Follow the suit that was led if you can, from your hand or your piles. If you can't, you may trump or throw anything.
- Highest trump wins, otherwise the highest card of the suit that was led. The winner leads next.
- When you play a face-up card, the card underneath turns face up after the trick.
Pulling cards
Every trick over your target lets you pull one card from your opponent's hand next hand, then give back any card you don't want. The host picks blind pick or name-a-suit, just like 2-3-5.
Scoring
Each hand you score tricks won minus your target. Highest total at the end of the match wins.
