How to play 2-3-5
3 players, 30 cards. Sevens through aces in every suit, minus the 7♣ and 7♦. Everyone gets 10 cards, so there are 10 tricks a hand.
Targets
The dealer needs 2 tricks, and the other two need 3 and 5. 2 + 3 + 5 = 10. The player who needs 5 calls trump after seeing their first 5 cards, then leads the first trick.
The host picks how targets move around the table:
- 2 → 3 → 5: your own target climbs 2, then 3, then 5 over three hands. Whoever needed 5 deals next.
- 2 → 5 → 3 (classic): the player after the dealer needs 5 and the last needs 3. The deal passes to the next player.
Khulli patti
Can't decide on trump from your first 5 cards? Go khulli patti ("open cards"): turn up any 2 of your next 5 cards while they're still face down. Everyone sees them, and trump must be the suit of one of those two cards. The host can switch this off in the lobby.
Play
- Play goes anticlockwise, to your right.
- Follow the suit that was led if you can. If you can't, you may trump or throw anything.
- Highest trump wins, otherwise the highest card of the suit that was led. The winner leads next.
Pulling cards
Every trick over your target lets you pull one card next hand from someone who fell short. After you take it, you give back any card you don't want. The host picks how you pull:
- Blind pick: they get 15 seconds to rearrange their cards face-down, then you pick one by number.
- Name a suit: they must hand over their highest card in that suit.
Scoring
Each hand you score tricks won minus your target. Highest total at the end of the match wins.
